TOP 5 STYLE TRENDS

Daring and bold, leave it to the Italians to keep men’s fashion cutting edge. Whether it’s blurring the lines between the men’s and women’s department or transporting you to an exotic destination, these are the top 5 stylish takeaways from Milan Fashion Week.

UNISEX DRESSING

Gender rules are being broken all over the place and fashion isn’t being left behind. From denim cut-off short shorts at Gucci to pencil skirts at Prada (albeit worn by decidedly androgynous female models), the lines between the men’s and women’s department continue to blur.

SHEER SUITING

Known for innovative fabrics, Ermenegildo Zegna used sheer for Spring 2016 with suits that showed skin from the thigh down. They are lightweight without being too revealing, and nicely combat summer’s heat.

LOOSE LAYERS

This trend hit women’s wear hard in Spring 2015, and in 2016 it’s the boys turn to don flowy silhouettes. Fendi sent oversized pocket T-shirts down the runway along with wide leg pants and shorts, while Bottega Veneta paired modish joggers with blazers and oversized activewear.

TRAVEL INSPIRED

Versace went to the Middle East for inspiration putting their presentation on under a Bedouin-inspired tent, and sending extra-long robes reminiscent of thawbs paired with long tees and silky pants down the runway.

UPDATED 70s

While Tom Ford went swinging 1960s in London, Bally went for a later decade with a collection full of 1970s references. Matching beige sport coats and pants paired with light turtlenecks, double-breasted jackets and an après ski aesthetic.

A SUIT TO TRAVEL IN

It’s not every day a fashion presentation utilizes the talents of a stunt bicyclist to show off its suiting, but Paul Smith has proved it doesn’t just put on a standard runway show. Showing at the British Fashion Council’s London Fashion Week, the brand built upon its previous AW15 concept of gymnasts presenting their show for A Suit to Travel In and added some serious stunt work.

Decked out in the SS16 version of the famously durable suit, freestyle stunt cyclist Ben Savage utilized a custom set of ramps to show off both his bike handling abilities and the line’s high crease resistance. Designed with fellow The Shops at Crystals standout Loro Piana cloth, the collection was created for men on the go who can’t stop to steam their wares constantly. For SS16, designers incorporated a lighter color palette and pinstripe designs along with unlined and breathable cloth to make the perfect summer suit.
