City lights: a new vision of the urban experience, a place of power and possibility for women. This season, Raf Simons, Artistic Director of Christian Dior, celebrates the strength and power of the city silhouette together with the women who wear it. Here, unafraid to combine femininity with masculinity, the traditions of men’s tailoring with the Dior vision of the ‘femme fleur,’ Simons presents a synthesis of the real and imagined: an abstracted cityscape with a new breed of female worker that plays the presiding role within it.
“This season I wanted to propose a new woman,” says Raf Simons. “A woman with power and energy in a very definite way. I wanted to pursue powerful tailoring, to offer another reality, another function. This season is less about the leisure of the garden and more about the pace of the city. I am attracted to the reality of the urban world and environment, not just to the leisured world of ‘the moment’ – that world of the event or the party. This Dior woman inhabits both.”
“I wanted to approach the idea of the city as an abstraction, it is how I perceive the world of the city in this collection,” says Raf Simons. “It is an idea of the romantic and the real, a world of possibilities. At the same time I wanted to present women with freedom and possibilities in the way they dress too.”

Celebrities and style devotees descended in Paris July 6 to 10 for the Haute Couture shows. The gowns that made their way down the runways of these elaborate fetes are the same looks that will be on red carpets throughout the season. Here are three trends that we can count on weaving their way into the fashion vernacular.
1. The Age of Innocence
Forget the all-too-modern Age of Aquarius; decadence is upon us in the form of grand bell skirts and ornate details such as beading and embroidery. Christian Dior showed a range of styles from the exaggerated to the subdued. On the opposite end, there were plenty of zippered jumpsuits to juxtapose the 19th century sensibility of the gowns. We have Edith to thank for all this romance.
2. The Fabulous Fifties
Bone-waisted jackets with rounded shoulders kicked off Atelier Versace, indicative of a post-WWII-Atomic-Age style we haven’t seen on the runway in recent years. There were plenty of the buckles and an artful mix of fabrics—one of the signatures of the Italian design house. Most stunning were the dresses, which all put focus on one leg. Bodysuits were strapped into gowns with reams and reams of buttery silks, and T-shirts were bedazzled and bejeweled. There is nothing matte; it’s time to shine.
3. Back to Nature
Valentino’s presentation epitomized how you should dress on those days when you feel like a cross between a Greek goddess and a woodland fairy. Toga-inspired gowns, leather straps as belts and on sandals, and feathers, tulle and rich gold lace added an aviary touch to stunning couture pieces, channeling the splendid Earth Mother inside us all. The new organic is decadent and ripe.

Instagram was everywhere during the 2015 Resort collection presentations and a great way to get an insider’s view at all the behind-the-scenes fun. Here’s a look at how three designers and their celebrity style packs trended “off-season” using the popular social media tool.
With about 775,000 followers designer @StellaMcCartney touted her guests (it-girls such as Liv Tyler, Amber Heard, Cara DeLevingne and Maggie Gyllenhaal) just as much as the clothes. Inside the Elizabeth Street Garden party hashtags such as #stellasuperheroes, #stellasworld #stellagirls were flying to show off patchworks of print and stripes, side cutouts and sunray pleated dresses. The mood was light with party favors such as the always-enchanting “mustache on a stick,” blue lollipops and the ensuing blue tongue and bubble guns. The overall tone matched the “superhero” motif found on key pieces within the collection, including a suite of handbags that looked like masks.
Guests such as Rihanna, Marion Cotillard, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Leelee Sobieski, Allison Williams and Margot Robbie arrived by signature Dior water taxis to the Brooklyn Navy Yard's Duggal Greenhouse for Dior’s Cruise show in early May. Through hashtags such as #DiorCruise2015 #diorbts, the official Dior Instagram account @Dior showed off the stunning “mirror effect” runway, backstage makeup applications (#peterphilips) and a number of the top looks of the season from creative director Raf Simons. For this presentation, he favored the A-line silhouette with scarf prints and textures both archival and new. All in all there were 66 looks to celebrate Dior USA’s 66th year.
And while their “All About Women” client event was not a Resort presentation, Hermés’ off-season party was one for the record books. Inside Wall Street’s JP Morgan headquarters there were numerous environments to enjoy. Scene 1 was a rerun of their Autumn/Winter collection, and Scene 2 was a full-on carnival with a retro swim tableau, pinball and roll-a-ball horse racing and a fashion fortune-teller. @Hermes and #HermesAllAboutWomen gave a fantastic look into the almost unbelievable spare-no-expense affair. A video clip favored by guests was “Dancing Bags,” and a photo booth elicited the hashtag #toomuchfun.
